All the Virology on the WWW  Online Tutorials - a great way to learn about  smallpox, mad cow disease, yellow fever, and virus replication from a website which has the best links for virology information for virologists. Anatomy of an Epidemic - this is a student developed ThinkQuest siite which provides information on epidemics, diseases that effect many people at once.  The site covers AIDS, Influenza, Whooping Cough, Herpes, Plague, and Ebola among other diseases.  Click on Epidemics on the homepage.  There are also maps and quizzes on this site.
Attack of the Killer Germs -  a ThinkQuest site developed by 8th graders which provides information on viruses such as German measles, influenza, poliomyelitis, and AIDS. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention - this United States government organization is part of the Department of Health and Human Services. Search the A-Z Index for fact sheets on various diseases.
Diseases A - Z - American Lung Association - fact sheets on many diseases including colds, influenza, Hanta virus, and pneumonia.  drkoop.com - this commercial site takes its name from Dr. Koop, a former United States Surgeon General.  The site has a Health Encyclopedia which you can use to look up the disease you are researching.  Click on the starting letter of your virus name under Diseases and Conditions A-Z.  A description of a disease is given along with its symptoms, related illnesses and prevention.
Epidemiology Fact Sheet - information on contagious diseases, their causes, symptoms and prevention provided by the Hawaii Department of Health.

Hidden Killers:  Deadly Viruses - a sophisticated ThinkQuest site which covers all aspects of viruses in an easy to read and understand manner.  There is virus basics, news, games,  the vocabulary of the day along with the cool site of the day.  Click on virus profiles to get  a profile, symptoms, effects, treatment and protection from hepatitis, herpes, HIV, rubella, rabies, polio, and yellow fever among others. Infection Detection Protection - from the American Museum of Natural History.  While geared for younger children, it provides basic information, using games and colorful graphics on microbes, how infection is spread, and how to prevent the spread of disease.  This is a fun site.
Indiana University Health Center -  this university Health Center provides fact sheets on common diseases including chickenpox, mononucelosis, and hepatitis. Iowa Clinic, P.C. -  This clinic located in the midwest provides an encyclopedia which describes the causes, symptoms, and treatment of various diseases.
KidsHealth.org - is a project of the Nemours Center For Children's Health to provide information on infections, behavior & emotions, food & fitness, and growing up healthy.  There are also games and animations at this site. Scroll down the page to Bacterial & Viral Infections.
National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases - this Institute is part of the National Institute for Health.  Its publication section provides facts sheets on several viral diseases including the flu,  malaria, West Nile virus, and AIDS.
  Virology Down Under - Scroll down the list of Specific Viruses on this Australian site to get to articles on the properties of the viruses which cause mumps, influenza, herpes simplex among others.  A note of caution this articles are quite technical but some of them have photographs of the viruses.
Virtual Virus Experience - an excellent 1997 ThinkQuest site done by two high school seniors on viruses.  The site covers the appearance of viruses, their composition, the role of DNA, defense mechanism.  There is a terrific gallery of viral images, a special section on AIDS and links to virus sites. What the heck is . . .? - this is a series of articles written by John Brown, a professor in the Department of Molecular Biology at the University of Kansas.  There are articles explaining viruses and the flu.
WHO Fact Sheets - the World Health Organization provides fact sheets on numerous health topics including Ebola, Dengue, Lassa Fever, and Influenza.
