QUOTATION SITES
AtoZquotes.com- lets you search for quotations by keyword or author.  Provides links to many quotation sites under the categories of most quotations, creative and fun and favorites. Bartleby.com- this site offers the text of great books online including Bartlett's Familiar Quotations, 10th edition and Simpson's Contemporary Quotations online.  The Bartlett's online version does not include all the quotations or authors found in the book which is a later edition. Use Select Search in the window next to Search at the top of the screen.  Type in your key word and quotations in the search window.  For example, "sports quotations". Baseball Almanac - a web site dedicated to baseball which provides quotations related to the sport. The Columbia World of  Quotations - Part of Bartleby.com, The Columbia World of Quotations offers 65,000 quotations from more than 5,000 authors which are classified into 6,500 subjects. Use the pull down menu next to Search to select category and enter your key word.
Mathematical Quotation Server - quotation related to math can be found be browsing, a keyword search or by using the Random Quote Generator. Phrase Worth Considering - quotations and proverbs organized by subjects such as change, leadership, life, happiness, and being oneself. The Quotations and Sayings Database - contains quotations based on a weekly feature, a quote of the week and quotes posted by visitors.Click on quotes by subject   find quotes on mothers, fathers, summer, science, etc. The Quotations Archive - database of over 1600 quotations which can be searched by subjects such as animals, business, cars, family, science, and sports.
Quotations Page  provides quotes of the day and week, motivational quotes as well as links to other quotation sites.  It does offer a quote search of 12 different quotation collections which are unusual.  Two of them are by the web masters of the site, Michael and Laura Moncur. To search the collection, select Search, enter your keyword and check off any or all the collections which you want to search. Quoteland.comcontains humorous, literary, and random quotations. Use the search window for keyword searching or click on Quotations by Topic. Quotez- this is a British site so be prepared for phrases that aren't American and will not mean much to you.  However, there are over 13,500 quotes organized according to a list of over 500 subjects and a list of 2,000 authors.  Use the subject index, quick search or the power search with keywords. Ragamuffin's Cat Quotes - a collection of quotes and proverbs about felines. 
A Short Dictionary Of Scientific Quotations - Natural Science magazine has put together a collection of quotations by scientist.  This is an alphabetical listing by the author of the quote.  The site does not offer a search window or subject index. Toinspire.com- offers quotations on a variety of categories along with quotes of famous people, holidays, and quotes to inspire.  Click on the Quotations Categories section.

A Journey of Life - a personal web site with a collection of quotes arranged by the phases of life including birth, teenage years, adulthood, and aging and death.  Quotes on friendship, relationships, and dreams are also included.  WorldOfQuotes.com - Quotes and Proverb Archive - choose from over 59,000 quotes organized into 1,399 topics in this astounding collection of quotations.

POETRY SITES
American Verse Project - this University of Michigan site is an electronic archive of American poetry written prior to 1920.  You can search by keyword or a combination of keywords.  Your search can also be limited to selected works in the collection. Baseball Almanac - a web site dedicated to baseball which provides poetry and songs related to the sport. Cool Bird Poems - what is at this site?  Bird poems, of course.  The full title of the site is Cool Bird Poems An E-Anthology Of Avian Poetry.  The web master has a graduate degree in English and a lifelong interest in birds.  You can search the site by type of bird.
Edward Lear Home Page - Marco Graziosi has created a web site devoted to Edward Lear.  You can find his nonsense poetry and information about the poet. Find a Poem - Founded in 1934 to support American poets in their careers and to increase appreciation of poetry, the Academy of American Poets offers a collection of over twelve hundred poems which can be searched by keyword, title, and first line. Giggle Poetry - Children's poet, Bruce Lansky has an awarding winning  fun web site.  You can read his humorous poems in either School Poems or Favorite Poems.  Rate 'em lets you read new poems and give your opinion.  The Poetry Fun section offers poetry theater and fill-in-the-blank poems.
Grandpa Tucker's Poems for Kids -  Bob Tucker of Grandpa Tucker's Rhymes and Tales web site has a great collection of funny poems. KidzPage- this site contains the humorous verse of Ogden Nash as well as a few other poems for children.  Use either Have a bash with Ogden Nash, For Better or Verse or Verse and Worse! The Poetry Archives - provides a search engine to a collection of over 4,068 poems by 147 authors. There is a search box to enter keywords and a list of pets.  You will have better results with more traditional keywords such as friendship than with terms such as basketball or sports.
Poetry by Nicholas Gordon - this is a site over 500 poems written by Nicholas Gordon, a retired   English professor.  The poems are listed alphabetically and by subjects such as friendship, graduation, love, thank you, and Father's Day. Poetry for Kids - Funny Poems for Children by Poet Kenn Nesbitt - Kenn Nesbitt writes poetry for children.  He offers poems on a variety of subjects such as animals, food, music, school.

INTERNET SEARCH INDEXES AND ENGINES
Yahooligans - is a list of websites prepared by the seearch engine Yahoo!.  The sites listed do not have a summary or grade level indicators.  You can search by keyword or select from categories which include Sports & Recreation, Entertainment, Computers & Games, Art Soup and Science Oddities.  To look for quotation sites, type in quotes in the search box on the homepage. To look for poetry sites, click on Language Arts under School Bell on the homepage then click on Poetry. YAHOO- the sites listed do not have a summary or grade level indicators. You can select quotations from categories ranging from literary, daily, television to movies and film.  You can also choose from a range of sites which includes Bartlett's.

These sites have been selected for their relevance to the seventh grade quotations project which is part of the Language Arts curriculum.  These choices are consistent with the selection policies of the library, and with the print and non-print materials available there.  Each site has been seen by the librarian and has been screened by the school's Internet filtering software.  However, the library, Thomas Jefferson Middle School, and the Board of Education are not responsible for the content of these sites, which is subject to frequent change, nor for the content of any other sites to which these sites may be linked.
