Check out the links, virtual gallery and activity corner at this on-line source of information on Asian and Asian-American studies for k-12 students and teachers.  This site is run by the Asian Educational Resource Center.
Allrecipes.com
a huge collection of recipes at this commercial site.  Enter the name of your country in the Search  Allrecipes window and get a list of recipes from the country submitted by the users of the site.

From the Youth Department of the Canton, Ohio Public Library,  There are links to sites on individual countries.  Check out the General Information section with links to flags and recipes.
Cultural Connections
a student developed Thinkquest site which provides photos, maps, language, celebration information for a variety of countries.  You get to a country's information by clicking on the flag or its location on the world map.

Did you know it that giving gifts in multiples of four is a bad thing to do in Japan?  Did you know that giving chrysanthemums in Spain is offensive?  You can find out al ot more at this is a commercial site designed to provide business etiquette and culture information to people doing business with other countries.  You can find out what are appropriate gifts to give, what are the proper clothes to wear and what not to say in a conversation.  There are also links to travel information and culture websites.
Foreign Languages for Travelers
with this site you can learn basic phrases of a foreign language, look at a word or phrase in many different languages or look up words in the translating dictionaries.  The site is maintained by Michael Martin of Travlang, a company which sells products in 900 languages.

The Global Gazette
a Thinkquest site developed by three  girls, from China, the United States, and Norway.  You will find information on  the  schools, leisure, sports, religion and food of each of these countries in the Everyday life section. There is also information on the arts and music and government.
International Recipes OnLine
This commercial site provides thousands of recipes.  Enter your country name in the search window for a list of recipes from that country.  The recipes have been submitted by the users of the site.
MCC Multicultural Calendar
sponsored by Kidlink, this is a site which allows you to search for holidays by month, holiday name or country.  The entries have been sent in by kids all over the world.  You may see some spelling and grammar errors but you get a description of the holiday by a  child who lives in the country.
National Holidays
a commercial site with lots of ads for Amazon.com and Hallmark but with terrific information on holidays around the world.  Click on a country for a detailed list of public and religious holidays.  There are links to additional information on the country's religion.

The Web of Culture - Gestures around the World
Is it rude to smoke in public in Turkey?  Should you shake hands when you meet someone in the Czech Republic?  Can you pass the salt shaker when you are eating a meal  in Finland?  You can find out what is appropriate in your assigned country from this commercial site which provides detailed information on acceptable body language in different countries written by the author of a book on this subject.
