Mrs. Deock has selected six web sites for you to use in your Personal Trainer project.
This site provides guidelines for healthy aerobic activity, calculates your exercise heart rate range, and view a brochure about Careers in Sports Medicine and Exercise Science .  Use the links on the left to look at Calculate Your Heart Rate and Guideline for Aerobic Activity
What is your heart rate? What are some basic exercises you can do? Do diets work? What are some health issues you should know about? These and other questions answered at this student developed Think Quest site.

 A "free calorie counter and calculator for the calorie content of foods."
Sponsored by the American Heart Association, the Fitness Center lets you determine activity profiles, browse nutrition and exercise recommendations, and maintain an online exercise diary.
This site is maintained by two personal trainers and contains articles on exercise, diet and nutrition, child fitness, adventure, martial arts, and more. 
Steven B. Halls, M.D. offers two ways to calculate ideal weights for your client.  Enter your client's weight, height, age, and gender into the calculator.  Click the calculate button.  Scroll down to the Peoples Choice and Medical Recommendation results.

Medical Network, Inc., a health technology company based in Monmouth Junction, New Jersey, provides offers a great deal of information on exercise and nutrition in their Healthy Lifestyle section. 
Information on physical activity and diet and nutrition from the Executive Office of the President and the Department of Health and Human Services.
The Ontario Public Health Association site offers information for women who want to improve their fitness and nutrition. It features a self assessment test and basic plans for incorporating physical activity and healthy eating into daily life. While this site is geared for women, the tip sheets and progress monitoring chart are useful for any client, male or female
It's always the right time to exercise! You don't need fancy equipment or expensive sneakers. You don't need a ton of kids around. Sometimes you don't even need to leave the house to get exercise. Learn how to get great exercise - no matter what the weather's like or whoo's around!
The President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports promotes physical fitness and active lifestyles for people of all ages. The site features information about programs for youth and adults, activity logs, and activity ideas and tools. There is a downloadable fitness handbook, and links to information about physical fitness for people with disabilities. The site has separate sections for kids, teens, adults, and senior citizens.
C. Everett Koop, a former Surgeon General of the U.S. established this site which focuses on decreasing obesity and stresses simple changes in diet and exercise habits that easily acquired. The Cyberkitchen helps you balance meals with physical activity. You can determine where your weight is by getting your Body Mass Index at the BMI Center. Then you can go on to determine your fitness level and suggested physical activities.
The American Dietetic Association, the National Center for Nutrition, and the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports present a brochure on nutrition and fitness for kids from 9-15 years. 
This article on Yoga In The Office provides a description of "a series of simple but effective suggested [yoga] positions to help stretch the wrists, neck, shoulders, back and legs" that can be done outside of a yoga studio.  The article was written by a yoga instructor.

This official government Web site provides information about the food guide pyramid released in 2005 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Includes detailed information for every food group represented in the new "sideways" pyramid (which is an update on the 1992 food pyramid); a personalized food guide based on your age, sex, and activity level.
