About Art History:  Artist Profiles Index Shelley Esaak, the Art History guide for About.com, provides information about a large number of artists.  You can find out the birth and death dates, the artistic movement, and their most famous works.
American Masters You can find information on Alexander Calder   Diego Rivera   Norman Rockwell    Georgia O’Keeffe from this website about the PBS series on the lives, works and creative processes of outstanding cultural artists.
Amore  and Tesoro Galleries These two sites provide color illustrations of the works of Impressionist artists along with biographical information. 
Art History Resources on the Web Christopher L. C. E. Witcombe, a professor of art history at Sweet Briar College, provides numerous links to web sites for art history. Use this site to research the artistic movement your artist is associated with.

Artcyclopedia provides numerous sites and links to the works of 7,500 artists.  These sites and links will provide you with examples of the artist's work, biographical information and explanations of their style and techniques.  You can search this database by artistic movement or the individual artist's name
Artists & Illustrators  USA 1840-1960 Brief encyclopedia articles on American artists and illustrators including Edward Hopper, Charles Russell and Frederick Remington.
Artlex Art Dictionary Michael Delahunt has definitions for more than 3,600 terms used in discussing art and visual culture.  This site is useful for looking up artistic movements.
artnet.com Research Library provides excerpts of biographies from the Grove Dictionary of Art.
Biography on A&E One page biographies of many artists along with recommended web sites.  Enter the artist name in yellow search window or use the pull down menu to select Artists in the category search.
Carol Gerten's Fine Art - A Virtual Art Museum (CFGA) Artists can be searched through the Artist Indexes by the last name of the artist.  You will frequently find this site as a link from other art sites.
Brain-Juice Detailed  biographies of  influential artists, filmmakers, politicians, writers, and musicians of the 20th century which are written by undergraduate and graduate students.  Each biography contains on a section on the subject's
most notable works or political milestones. 
CBBC - Artyfacts Find out about the personalities of artists, check out their work and get all the Artyfacts you need.

Global Gallery - The Online Art Source An extensive collection of artist biographies that include 100s of artists, from Renaissance masters to modern creators.

Loggia A vast web site for exploring art and the humanities.  The site offers a both brief and detailed biographies of major artists in the Artist at a Glance and Artist Biographies sections.
Lucidcafe While the primary purpose of this website is to serve cafe and coffee lovers, it maintains an excellent biography archive where you can find a biography of your subject along with suggested websites and videos, books by and about the subject. Check out the artist listings.
Mark Harden's Artchive Mark Harden provides over 2,000 images from over 200 different artists in the Artchive section of the site.  In addition check out The Galleries where there are seven or eight different exhibition where there is information on Goya, Rembrandt and Impressionists. Also check out Glyphs Art Reviews where you will find Harden's art exhibit reviews which include Monet, Kandinsky, and Vermeer.
National Gallery of Art Use the index of artists in this museum's collection to find a biography and images of the artist's work that are housed in the collection.
Olga’s Gallery-Online Art Museum Olga and Helen Mataev started the gallery as a project to help children learn the history of painting, religion, and literature. It has become a very popular website among college teachers and students, and among art lovers
Peggy Guggenheim Collection – Artists Brief biographies of many artists are provided here.  Included in the biographies are the names of the Artist's works held by the Peggy Guggenheim Collection as well as which collection they belong to. The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is located in Venice, Italy.
Studio International Detailed articles on various painters and their exhibits at museums in the United Kingdom.  There are articles on Breughel, Cezanne, Durer, Goya, Klee, Matisse, Monet, Rembrandt, and Titian.
Timeline of Art History The Metropolitan Museum of Art presents an amazing timeline.  You can use it to search for information on your artist as well as their artistic movement.  Use the Features section on the left hand side of the page.
Visual Artists Index This is an index to web sites about individual artists and artistic movements from the World Wide Art Resources web site.
Web Gallery of Art Emily Kren and Daniel Marx maintain this web site which contains over 11,000 digital reproductions of European paintings and sculptures created between the years 1150 and 1800. There are comments for a large number of the pictures which offer a critical analysis In addition, there are detailed biographies of the artists. 
WebMuseum, Paris contains exhibitions of famous paintings which can be accessed by the artist name and by theme.  Entries for artists contain biographical notes and critical commentaries.  Use the Artist Index to search for your artist.  As you search the Internet for artist information, many sites recommend the WebMuseum and provide links to it.
Who2? A website about famous people. It provides information such as birth and death dates, famous works, notorious trivia, and the four best websites for additional details. The people covered range from authors, stars, mythical gods, and cartoon dogs to kings, queens, and famous frauds. 
Women Artists in History This site provides links to information on women artists throughout history.  Use the nineteenth century list to find your artist.
WWW Pop Art Web master, Tom Staudek provides a guide to the 1960s art movement, with detailed biographies with links to relevant web sites about the artist.
